Used to being pampered by my family and close friends, I was hesitant to leave my safe and secure home to go live in the residential campus of one of the top business schools in India. While I had managed to impress the interviewers with my vast knowledge, I was not ready to move out from the comforts of my home. But letting go of such a great opportunity was also not an option. Hence, I packed my bags and made myself mentally prepared for the difficult years that were to follow. Shy as I was, I doubted my ability to take an initiative to strike conversations with students so smart.
On reaching the campus, I was allotted a room that was to be shared with another girl from my batch. I still feel fortunate to have encountered a roommate completely opposite of me. It saved me the trouble of initiating dialogue. She was a year older than I, and had studied engineering from one of the top engineering colleges in Gurgaon. We instantly became friends. Being a complete chatterbox, she made friends effortlessly. And thanks to her, I too got pally with her friends eventually. The late-night group study sessions, helping each other with the assignments, making group presentations, participating in official events- all these made my days not only bearable, but extremely joyful.
Apart from studying together, we partied a lot too. I could not have survived the most challenging years of my life without these friends of mine. Besides learning so much from the amazing faculty of my college, I also learnt a lot from each friend. In spite of all of us staying in different cities, we all are still in touch with one another.
This is how I made lifelong friends in a B school!
